Eddy Shin first started studying music at the age of 5, learning cello under several great instructors in Houston, Texas. He was part of the Houston Youth Symphony for several years and continued to play cello until the age of 15. Around the age of 13, he developed an interest in guitar and fell in love with improvised music.
He went on to teach himself guitar, studying recordings and video of guitar greats like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Mayer, Eric Johnson, Wes Montgomery, and George Benson, and spent many hours practicing to hone his technique. He also studied electric bass technique, music theory, composition, and audio/video production in order to produce albums and music videos. He has self produced and recorded his own album, and also played in many bands and venues throughout the Bay Area. He has played and taught many styles of music, including rock, pop, jazz, blues, r&b, and funk, and has a very patient and goal oriented teaching style.
